Big Money Ahead as 45 Remain in Hunt for WPT World Championship
The 2023 WPT World Championship pushed past a key point in the payout table late on Day 4. Everyone left in the field, all 45 players, are now guaranteed a payday of at least $111,300 – and it only goes up from there.
There’s quite a bit of traffic at the top of the chip counts to start Day 5, with Canada’s Mark Mounsey holding onto the chip lead by the thinnest of margins. “Moustache Mark,” as some, including WPT Live Stream commentator Henry Kilbane, have taken to calling him, holds 18,725,000 chips, and stands to multiply his live career tournament earnings several times over even if things go completely sideways on Tuesday.
Mounsey is followed closely by Maxime Chilaud of France, Ren Lin, Raphael Blouet, and Ben Heath to round out the top five, all of whom could assume the chip lead in their own right with a single medium-sized pot. Of particular note are Lin and Heath, who are both regulars on the Super High Roller tournament circuit and for whom the coming pay jumps should be less pressure-packed.
Kristen and Alex Foxen are both still in the mix as well, having survived the better part of an hour at the end of the night on Day 4 sitting next to one another on the featured table stage.
Alex is one of three remaining WPT Champions Club members in the field at the start of Day 5, along with Chris Moorman and Roberto Romanello.
The other notables to keep an eye on include Andrew Lichtenberger, Artur Martirosian, and reality television standout Princess Love.
Day 5 is set to play five 90-minute levels, and everyone who makes it through to the end of the night on Tuesday will come back for the playdown to a final table of 6.
