WPT Rolling Thunder Championship Takes Place March 23-26 in NorCal

Thunder Valley Casino Resort is a popular World Poker Tour (WPT) destination, and it will play host to the $3,500 buy-in WPT Rolling Thunder Championship from March 23-26.

The event in Lincoln, California, a town near Sacramento, always attracts large fields. Prior to the Main Tour championship event, the WPT Rolling Thunder series, which begins March 7, features 21 events with buy ins ranging from $200 to $3,500.

The 2023 WPT Rolling Thunder attracted 590 entrants, with Scott Eskenazi winning it for $361,600 to join the WPT Champions Club. He defeated Jeremy Joseph ($234,000) heads up to finish it off. World Poker Tour commentator Tony Dunst also reached the final table, but was eliminated in sixth place for $73,400.

Day 1 will begin at 11 a.m. on March 23, and it will be the only starting flight available. At the same time on March 24, Day 2 kicks off for those who bagged chips the previous night. Days 3 and 4 are set to follow also at 11 a.m. each day, with the final table scheduled for March 26.

Players will begin the tournament with 50,000 chips and play 60-minute blind levels all the way up until heads up play starts. The blinds will switch to 30 minutes once the tournament has reached its final two players. On Day 1, eight levels will take place before bagging chips, and there isn’t a planned dinner break scheduled.

The WPT Rolling Thunder series kicks off March 7 with a $300 buy in no-limit hold’em tournament that has a $50,000 minimum guaranteed prize pool. Other series highlights include an $1,100 no-limit hold’em deepstack event (March 14), which promises at least $1 million in the pot. On March 22, the one-day $1,100 pot-limit Omaha tournament should bring out plenty of PLO lovers to Thunder Valley. You can view the full series schedule below.
