The latest online poker tournament festival lands at 888poker on March 17, and everything points to it being another roaring success. Following on from the inaugural PokerNews Online Championship, the Mystery Bounty Festival is a ten-day series in which every event is a mystery bounty tournament.
The Mystery Bounty Festival runs at 888poker from March 17 until March 26. The bustling schedule contains 26 numbered events and dozens of side events, each played to the exciting mystery bounty format.
What is a Mystery Bounty Tournament?
Mystery Bounty tournaments have taken the live and online poker world by storm, and 888poker has long been the online poker site that has embraced the craze. These tournaments play like regular tournaments during the early stages, but once a certain blind level is reached, the Mystery Bounty element comes into play.
Once the mystery bounties are activated, all players have a golden envelope placed on their heads. As the name suggests, nobody knows the bounty amount waiting inside the envelope. Eliminate an opponent during this stage, and you get to open their envelope. The bounties are usually on the smaller side, but some are substantial, with the top bounty prize often 10% of the tournament’s guaranteed prize pool.
If you are the last player standing, you will also open the envelope that was on your head.
At the recent 888poker XL Winter Series, Ireland’s “Cosmin1812” opened a $100,000 mystery bounty in the $1 million guaranteed Main Event! They also went on to triumph in the tournament, taking home $218,885 in total, with $136,266 stemming from mystery bounties!
888poker Mystery Bounty Festival Schedule (Numbered Events)
The 888poker Mystery Bounty Festival gets underway on March 17. This is your first chance to build a stack in the $215 buy-in, $300,000 guaranteed Main Event. The Main Event is multi-flighted, with Day 1s taking place throughout the festival, culminating in a thrilling Day 2 on March 25 and a live-streamed final table on March 26.
The mystery bounties come into play in the Main Event from Day 2 onwards, so building a big stack is beneficial.
On the opening day of the festival, the first flights for the $25 buy-in, $50,000 guaranteed Mini Main Event will also be seen. Again, this has multiple flights throughout the festival, giving you ample opportunities to get involved.
It isn’t only the numbered events that have the 888poker community hot under the collar because several other mystery bounty tournaments run each day. By the time the curtain comes down on the festival, 888poker will have dished out more than $1 million in guaranteed prize pools.
